The Senior Finance Officer is a core management accounting position responsible for the end-to-end financial practices of the organisation. This role focuses heavily on budget builds, periodic forecasting, and high-level monthly management reporting to drive strategic outcomes. You will lead a small team to ensure excellence in financial operations while acting as a key advisor to leadership. Previous experience working within goverment or a similar organisation is non negotiable for this role. This role is located in Nathan QLD 4111 but will be a hybrid role for the successful candidate.
Budget & Forecasting: Lead the development of comprehensive budget builds and manage the periodic forecasting process to align with strategic organisational goals.
Management Accounting: Perform detailed financial analysis and modelling to provide actionable insights for operational managers and the Senior Leadership Team.
Financial Reporting: Deliver accurate monthly management reporting, including variance analysis and performance tracking.
Governance & Compliance: Administer financial practices—including grants, asset management, and reporting—in strict accordance with the Financial Management Practice Manual (FMPM).
Team Leadership: Oversee an immediate team of four, providing direct supervision and mentorship to two staff members focused on accounts payable, receivable, and corporate card management.
We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in management accounting who can "hit the ground running" within a public sector environment.
Financial Expertise: Proven experience in management and financial accounting, with the technical ability to deliver quality results in a complex environment.
Public Sector Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to apply functional knowledge of financial compliance and legislative frameworks (e.g., FMPM).
Analytical Rigour: High-level skills in financial modelling and organisational planning to support a varied and high-pressure work program.
People Management: Experience in managing and delegating tasks to a team, fostering a culture of empowerment and accountability.
Qualifications & Eligibility:
Highly Regarded: A tertiary degree in Commerce, Business, or Accounting.
Professional Membership: CA, CPA, or equivalent membership is strongly preferred.
Requirements: You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid visa permitting work in Australia.
